Al Amana Centre has been historically part of the work of the Reformed Church in America. While continuing to link strongly with RCA, it has been recognized that the work being done by Al Amana Centre is much wider. Al Amana Centre is ecumenically-minded organization which brings together Christians from various backgrounds to work together for interfaith dialogue and peace building. Both the staff and the board of the organization is ecumenical. The Executive Director of the organization is Lutheran and Chairperson of the Board is Anglican. Both Associate Director as well as number of board members are members in the Reformed Church in America. Board and staff consist of Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican as well as Reformed Christians.
Al Amana Centre works also as the Secretariat for Gulf Churches Fellowship (GCF). GCF will gather for the purpose of growing in relationship with each other identifying areas of shared ministry and concern and joining together for mutual support in communicating with governments. More information about GCF can be found from their website gulfchurches.org
People identifying as Christian, Muslim or Hindu comprise ~71% of the world’s population, but even in today’s age of global connectedness misunderstandings between these religions abound. Movies, T.V., news outlets, and social media help to reinforce stereotypes about cultures, religions, and regions of the world that are largely unfounded and often harmful to peaceful cohabitation of the plant we all call home.
While time consuming and requiring financial resources, face to face interactions and immersions in to other cultures are some of the best ways to help people correct misunderstandings about each other, learn about religious beliefs and practices, and correct false cultural stereotypes.
Building on Al Amana Centre’s history, relationship, and partnership with the Omani people and government we are happy to provide space and guidance to individuals and groups who wish to come to Oman and experience Arab culture, engage in mutual interreligious understanding, self-exploration of one’s own faith.
Al Amana’s experienced staff will work with you, your group, church, school, or organization to create a program that will meet your needs.
While we can host programs anywhere from one day to two weeks, we usually recommend 8-10 days as an efficient way to balance time and cost while still reaping benefits of being immersed in the local culture.
Programs can include:
Costs: Costs vary depending on type of program, length of stay, accommodation, and group size. Generally, an eight to ten-day program for 8-10 people staying at Al Amana Centre cost $2000-$2500 USD per person. This includes all in country costs, i.e. lodging, food, in country transportation, fees, instruction, airport pickup.
