Reflections from participants

One Solution AAC offers the world is a path from tolerance toward salam/shalom: through short-term and long-term experiential learning experiences, the Centre provides transformative learning that helps participants journey on a path from tolerance to mutual understanding, empathy toward respect and reconciliation that leads to Shalom/Salam.

These are just a sample of the many reflections shared by participants after our programs:

“I have been a changed person since I came back from Oman to my country. I give more respect to each individual that comes my way no matter their religious beliefs. My slogan now is “we are human first before religion and there is no religion without humanity.” – Burkola Shekoni,  (3-6mo post-program)

“This trip has helped humanize people of different faiths and given me skills to relate to Muslims so that when I go back home I will be able to understand the framework to relate to Muslims better.” – Participant

“A lot of the reflections I had on the trip have stuck with me. I guess one thing that I continue to think about is how you might not understand or agree with where somebody else is coming from, but you can still respect and have a friendship with them. Also, I continue to think about how our lives as Christ-followers should reflect His character and be a testament to His sacrifice for us. I know this one is a bit silly, but whenever I see a woman wearing a head covering, I do not regard her with confusion and distance like I used to. I now feel a deep sense of respect towards her.”  – Participant  (3-6mo post-program)

“I learned a lot about Islam and especially Ibadism. I had the prejudice that people from the gulf states are very conservative and not open to other religions. That prejudice changed and I am glad about it. And that showed me that I have to be more open and that I should try to overcome my prejudices also in my home country.” – Isabel
